Dear parents of 7th and 8th grade boys,

I trust that you have had a great summer and are looking forward to this school year! My name is Mr. Bartels and I will be your child’s Literacy and Social Studies teacher for the 2012-13 school year. I can be reached through the school (215-247-5266) (leave a message) or at nbartels@philasd.org.

There are certain materials that students are required to have or bring to school. Each student should have the following items at home to do homework (homework packets will be distributed at the beginning of EACH week and collected at the end of the week):

  • 1 dictionary
  • 1 thesaurus
  • lined paper

In addition, during the first week of school each student should bring to class:

  • 1 ream of copy paper with their name written on it.

Below is a list of supplies students should have with them EACH DAY. If they use up, damage or lose an item, they need to get a replacement immediately.

  • 4 composition notebooks (NOT spiral bound!)
  • 3 folders with 2 pockets and tabs for attaching 3 hole paper
  • 1 flashdrive (to save work done on computers, preferably linked to a keychain)
  • 1 bookbag with small pocket for pencils and other small items
  • 4 highlighter pens; one in each of the following colors: yellow, green, blue, orange
  • 4 pencils (sharpened)
  • 1 pencil sharpener that catches its own shavings
  • 4 manila folders
  • 1 ziplock bag, marked with student’s name, to store independent reading book(s)
  • 1 ziplock baggie, marked with student’s name, to store cell phone in (Registration form should be filled out for all students bringing a cell phone to school.)
  • 1 small bottle of hand sanitizer

If there is a problem obtaining any of the above materials, please contact me; there are outside organizations which can help families who have trouble acquiring school materials.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to teaching your child this year. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know!

Sincerely,

Mr. Bartels
